A Discussion Based On Nursing Informatics 2

I’m working on a other discussion question and need a sample draft to help me understand better.

Week 7: Technology: Benefits and Future Trends

What technology do you find most beneficial to use in your work or school setting? Least beneficial? Why do you find this tool useful or not? Then, using your imagination, look to the future and think about how this tool could be enhanced even further. Describe your dream technology, with consideration for patient care and safety.

(COs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8)

The future holds many mysteries, but one thing we can be sure of is that advancements in technology are not likely to slow down. Nurses need to be prepared to continue to incorporate more technology into clinical practice as these tools will have a direct impact on patient care. Nurses of the future need to know how to care for their patients as well as the technology used in that care (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).

I look forward to your thoughts!

You may begin posting for credit on Sunday, April 11, 2021. The first post is due by Wednesday at 11:59 1pm MT and the second post is due by Sunday 11:59 pm MT. Remember to provide at least two substantive posts in the discussion (approximately 200-250 words).

Course Outcomes for the week:

CO 1: Describe patient-care technologies as appropriate to address the needs of a diverse patient population.

CO 2: Analyze data from all relevant sources, including technology, to inform the delivery of care.

CO 3: Define standardized terminology that reflects nursing’s unique contribution to patient outcomes.

CO 4: Investigate safeguards and decision-making support tools embedded in patient care technologies and information systems to support a safe practice environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

CO 5: Identify patient care technologies, information systems, and communication devices that support safe nursing practice.

CO 7: Examine the use of information systems to document interventions related to achieving nurse-sensitive outcomes.

CO 8: Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force to institute change in delivery of nursing care.

  • The U.S. Department of Education noted, “technology ushers in fundamental structural changes that can be integral to achieving significant improvements in productivity (U.S Department of Education, 2020). In my opinion, the most beneficial technologies in the work/school setting are laptops, tablets, smartphones, and our simulation equipment. Our simulation equipment is a crucial component of our learning and the experiences facilitate major learning opportunities for nursing students agreed with this and added that clinical skills are encouraged in a safe and controlled environment(McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018). Some of the equipment includes the pyxis, mannequins, monitors, and IV pumps. These pieces of equipment provide students with learning opportunities where they can practice clinical skills safely.Laptops, tablets, and smartphones have become necessary in today’s world. Due to hybrid learning environments or the need for rapid information, these tools become a vital component. These select tools have applications that allow for easy access to information. Additionally, these tools provide students with the convenience of engaging with other students, continued connection/education, and full participation in the learning environment. Moving forward, with the use of e-books, laptops, tablets, and smartphones become paramount for gaining access. E-books create convenience for students, without having to lug hefty textbooks around.I do not have a particular piece of technology that I feel is least beneficial; rather, I feel that some areas of technology could be improved. Despite the many technological advances that have been made, technology still has the ability to malfunction or fall out of date. Healthcare continues to be a revolving door and rapidly expanding; therefore, our technology needs to match the rate of growth. Personally, I feel that our lab equipment should be updated regularly to better match the hospital setting. Some of the equipment that we use to practice with is outdated or no longer used. This causes us, students, to be confused or lost when we actually enter the clinical setting. Also, this causes us to be unfamiliar with the newer equipment, lowering our confidence, and potentially causing frustration for our preceptors. In conclusion, this explanation also includes my input on having “dream technology.” So there is no dream technology that I currently desire or no technology that I find least beneficial; rather, I just want our current technology to be up-to-date, functional, and applicable to the real world.ReferencesMcGonigle, D., & Mastrian, K.
