I’m working on a psychology discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
As I mentioned in class, there is a considerable body of evidence accumulating suggesting that drugs such as marijuana, psilocybin (“magic mushrooms”), and other psychedelics may be used to treat disordered mental health. I also mentioned that while many of the negative claims made about these drugs are exaggerated or untrue, for some people their use may result in serious side effects including psychosis that could range from transient and fleeting to permanent. Watch the two Youtube videos above and read the highlighted sections of the very recent 2021 article by Jenkins and Khokar to learn a little about both sides of the coin. Please note that a couple of the highlighted sections contain some dense scientific information about specific receptor sites… don’t try to figure out exactly what those things mean (unless you want to) and instead focus on the descriptions of what they found, or the takeaway message.
Write a 300-600 word response that includes the following:
- 0.5 point 50-100 words: Briefly summarize the potential benefits of psilocybin and other psychedlics for treating disordered mental health presented in the first video.
- 0.5 point 50-100 words: Briefly summarize the symptoms and experiences related to drug induced psychosis presented in the second video.
- 0.5 point 50-100 words: Briefly summarize the potential negative consequences of marijuana use among those with the psychiatric disorders presented in the Jenkins and Khokar (2021) article.
- 2 points 150-300 words: Given the fact that some drugs like marijuana and psychedlics have the potential to both profoundly help or harm the people who use them, especially those with pre-existing mental health problems or vulnerabilities, what do you think is the right course of action regarding the use of these drugs to treat disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addictions? Weigh the advantages and disadvantages, make a recommendation, and argue your point giving specific examples from the materials.
- 1.5 points: APA format including the following components:
- 12-point Times New Roman font, double spaced.
