Human Rights in the Age of Globalization.Part 1
This Unit brings together issues of traditional and economic rights that we have studied all semester and requires us to translate them into our own times and our own lives. In this discussion, try to incorporate lessons from prior units to facilitate a better understanding of the UDHR in a globalized economy. In light of current developments, also consider whether racism and inequality have contributed to the problems the world must contend with in the 21st century.

You have just learned that your favorite athletic shoes are made in Indonesian sweatshops. Some of the workers are children as young as 10 years old whose parents have sold them into debt bondage in order to support their families. They are forced to work long hours in filthy, unhealthy conditions. Average life expectancy for the children is less than 20 years.
You have worn these shoes for years and really like them. What action, if any, will you take? Explain your response.
