TITLE: Autonomy Development
Introduction:
Typical and atypical development is compared and the influence of culture is introduced. During the twentieth century the study of children has been of great interest and many theories have been developed about how children learn and grow. Theories are designed to show a plan or set of rules that explains, describes, or predicts what happens when children grow and learn. Several popular theories and their applications and limitations are described in this chapter. Adults have become aware that the knowledge of how children learn and grow is beneficial when interacting with and planning for young children. It also includes a brief history of child study, introduces types of observation, and examines the role of the adult in documenting children’s growth and learning and ethical guidelines for adults in working with young children.

Grading Criteria:
You will be responsible for creating your own discussion thread (think of this as your response or statement regarding the discussion board topic/question) and for responding to at least two other students’ posts.
Responses to the discussion prompt(s) should be written in complete sentences and should contain references to relevant course material from the text and/or other sources within the Module. A typical response to each question in the discussion prompt(s) should be a minimum of two paragraphs with each paragraph containing at least three sentences. It is helpful to create your response within Microsoft Word to take advantage of spell check and then copy and paste it into the assignment to submit. Points will be deducted for spelling and/or grammar errors, use of abbreviated or “texting” language and failure to adequately respond to the question/topic.
Responses to the posts of other classmates should be several sentences in length and address the information contained in the other student’s original post, as well as the concepts within the text and course material. When you respond to classmates, please be respectful of other view points and make sure that your response is thoughtful, insightful, and extends the content of the initial response. Responses such as, “good job”, “I agree”, “I never thought of that,” etc. will not be counted as a productive response and will not receive any credit.

The response builds on the ideas of the module and digs deeper into assignment questions or issues. Shows evidence and reference to assigned readings. Some incomplete sentences, grammar, and punctuation errors.
The response cites information from the text, includes individual opinion, and shows value as a seed for reflection. Complete sentences with very few grammatical or punctuation errors.
Response integrates multiple views and shows evidence of additional research which is properly cited in APA format. Complete sentences, no grammar or punctuation errors.
