For this week’s discussion board, please read Quentin Vieregge’s article “Exigency: What Makes My Message Indispensible to My Reader” and answer the following prompts in a post of at least 250 words:
- Find and read an academic article, political speech, or magazine article that employs one of the strategies mentioned in Vieregge’s article. (Include a link to the article in your response.) Which strategy does it employ, and how effective is the text at invoking exigency?
- How do you plan to employ exigency in your Advocacy Letter? What strategies would work best for your purpose? Why?
Once you have done that, respond to a classmate in a post of at least 150 words. Do you think your peer’s strategies will work effectively to highlight a sense of exigency in their letter? If so, why? If not, what suggestions could you give them to strengthen it?
