Your work with Highpoint Industries has gone well. Your discussion with Darleen, the CEO, regarding the balance between head and heart skills went very well and together you were able to articulate some strengths and deficits on her C Level team. While this led to some follow up conversations and coaching opportunities for you, you came to realize in your discussion with Darleen that indeed almost every member of the team seemed to lack a clear understanding of what it meant to have a shared purpose, a common set of values, and a clear and articulate vision. Darleen had shared this concern and again you had observed support for this deficit based on follow up conversations you have had. To that end, you are planning a bit of “whole group” instruction to deal with this issue. Darleen has prepared a two hour training session to take place in the weeks to come. For this assignment, you are to propose major focus areas for the training session.

Your paper should include the following and completely answer all of the questions for each bullet point. Use clear headings that allow your professor to know which bullet you are addressing. Support your content with at least four (4) citations throughout your presentation.

Component 2: (150 words) Application of the shared purposes, values, and vision of the organization – In this second section you will provide illustrations for how these essential elements in any organizational culture are manifested in a professional practice. Although you are not an expert in the business of basketball hoops (Highpoint Industries), you do have enough working knowledge to at least begin to address how these essential elements indeed can and should result in a better business proposition for Highpoint Industries.
Component 3: (150 words) In part three, you are to issue a growth challenge to all those involved in the training. The growth challenge is to include specific steps they can take to begin to more directly apply the concepts of shared purpose, values, and vision in the organization.

Over the last decade, Globalization has caused a paradigm shift in the structure, communication, processes, culture, policy, and growth of businesses. Today the ethical perspective of a company dictates the nature of growth and performance index of a business organization. Stakeholders, shareholders, strategic partners, team members, and employees look for elements that befit their personal and societal ethics before investing in any business venture. For this reason, a shared purpose, values, and vision is defined as the integration of business policies, objectives, principles with those of the stakeholders, shareholders to achieve a higher goal (Gary, 2020).

Application of a shared purpose, values, and vision

Now more than ever, there is increased awareness of the need for companies to operate for a higher purpose other than financial gains and shareholder wealth maximization.  A shared purpose, vision, and value re-engineer the entire business model and foundation from the top level to the bottom line command (Jane, 2001). These elements facilitate a unique approach that allows an emotional connection with the employees and the work they do. Incorporating people’s beliefs, values, and experiences in a business enterprise unleash positive energy and a vibrant workforce.  Employees gain a sense of purpose and therefore put in the effort to ensure the success of the business. When a company has a shared purpose, values, and vision, it creates opportunities for people to share their experiences, stories so that it can merge them with the vision and mission of the business.

Challenges of a shared purpose, values and vision

In the process of articulating a shared purpose, vision, and value, every company will experience challenges. One of the main issues hindering the implementation of these imperative elements is the fear of expression.  Employees have a fear of rejection, misjudged, or misinterpreted (William, 2012). Although this is a temporary issue, it is of paramount importance for the employees and the management to formulate a clear plan to facilitate the application of shared purpose, values, and vision. Firstly, the administration should create avenues for people to tell their stories, experience, and their essence in enhancing the overall organizational purpose. Through this, employees will open up to the concept and provide a credible and authentic experience that resonates with the organizations’ objectives. The employees should also follow the right medium of communication to avoid misinterpretation and misinformation, which can lead to conflict in the organization. Also, the workers should embrace the work culture and commit to participating in organizational change to achieve a higher corporate and personal purpose (Erica, 2011).

Conclusion

A shared purpose, values, and vision drive business growth, innovation, effective communication, and positive performance.  At its best, these essential elements boost employee retention rate, financial output, brand image. It is the backbone upon which business thrives and makes an impact in the world. Although implementing a shared purpose has significant challenges, it is of paramount importance for leaders and employees to formulate a plan to eradicate all the growth challenges.  With these elements, a business has the innate potential to develop meaningful meetings and interactions with regulatory agencies, communities, customers, and employees. A shared purpose, value, and vision is the single most distinguishing element in a business and, once achieved, illuminates the pathway for success. For this reason, a company must make a shared purpose, values, and vision a top priority.
