For this assignment, you are asked to distinguish between content and analysis. As we discussed in class, “content” is associated with the Elements of Art (what do we actually see within the art object?) and “analysis” is associated with the Principles of Design (how are the Elements arranged or used to create meaning?).
First, look at the image provided below. What do you see? Write a paragraph describing the image with as much detail as you can. Is any Element given a place of privilege over others?
Next, move from the descriptive to the analytic. How do you interpret the image? Be sure to locate your analysis within the image and incorporate your knowledge of the Principles as it is appropriate. Remember, an art object can be thought of as a series of decisions made by the artist. The writer’s job is to figure out and describe, explain, and interpret those decisions.
Your responses should be approximately one page in length, typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt font.
