The course is Family. Textbook used Nijole V. Benokraitis, Marriage and Families, 8th Edition. As the New York Times article Who’s on the Family Tree? Now It’s Complicated notes, “the once-simple concept of a family tree has grown complicated in the wake of sperm donations, surrogate mothers, adoptions and relationships outside wedlock.”
Use a functionalist or conflict-theory approach (or both) to explain the changes in these three dimensions. Why did the changes occur? How were they useful to the society of that time? How did they reflect conflicts and tensions in the society?
